TELLURIDE – On Friday, March 14, the U.S. Forest Service re-opened the Telluride Ski Area’s Gold Hill Backcountry Access gates into the Bear Creek Basin.
According to the Telluride Mountain Club, the Forest Service has come to the conclusion that previous closures did not achieve the objectives they had hoped for. They would rather have people using specific access points than dropping ropes wherever and whenever.
Due to their proximity to private property, some gates will not return but two access gates are now open, however. The Telluride Mountain Club will be making a map of the new locations as soon as we have all the info.
The Telluride Mountain Club, in a press release, reminds skiers and boarders to be respectful of private property, of other user groups and to ski safely.
