What an amazing community we live in! On Wednesday, April 23, the Telluride Intermediate School sixth grade was fortunate enough to participate in a panel discussion about energy and regional electricity use. Seven dedicated community members volunteered their time and expertise to talk with our students about the challenges and opportunities involved with making renewable energy choices. Our students are engaged in a Project Based Learning unit, focusing on the barriers to sustainable energy use, that will take them out of the classroom and into the community to learn about, and give back to, the Telluride community. It would not be possible without the generosity of these folks: Todd Gehrke, Hotel Madeline Karen Guglielmone, Town of Telluride Deanna Drew, Town of Mountain Village Nina Kothe, San Miguel County Chris Myers, enLIGHTen Ken Haynes, San Miguel Power Association Heather Rommel, EcoAction Partners The citizens, businesses and municipalities of our region are uniquely poised to lead the nation towards a more sustainable and rational approach to energy use. Thanks again to our experts for reminding us of this and inspiring us to continue our efforts.
