Silverton Man Arrested for Suspected Homicide

SILVERTON – A Silverton man is being held in La Plata County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder after reportedly stabbing his wife early Friday morning, June 6.

Law enforcement officers responded to a home on the 1300 block of Mineral Street in downtown Silverton at around 2 a.m., where they found a female victim with possible stab wounds. Paramedics were not able to revive her.

San Juan County Coroner Keri Metzler identified the victim as Jessica McFarland, 32.

Her husband Michael Allen McFarland, 31, was arrested without incident and transported to La Plata County Jail, said Melody Skinner of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office.

Reports indicate he couple’s two small children were at home when the suspected homicide occurred.

According to a release from the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents are on scene providing investigative assistance, while members of the CBI’s Crime Scene Response team are processing the scene at the request of San Juan County Sheriff Sue Kurtz.

The investigation is ongoing.
