Catch The Fastest-Moving Music Event of the Summer
For over a hundred years, the iconic coal-fired, steam powered locomotive traveling from Durango to Silverton has been a gateway into the extraordinary scenic route between the two Western Slope locales, but it hasn’t been until the last 5 years that the truly kinetic Durango Blues Train has transformed the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad into a three-and-a-half-hour festival on wheels. This Friday, Aug. 22 and Saturday, Aug. 23 is the last chance to jump aboard this summer.
Heralded as SBG Production’s live music event unlike any other in the country, this “moving” experience places passengers intimately next to six blues and zydeco acts each night of its run through the canyons of Colorado’s San Juan National Forest. Inspired artists fill vintage coach cars with their lively music as passengers dance and enjoy libations from Telluride Brewing Company and select winemakers, and are free to move between rail cars to catch all the performers. Now expanded to two days in May and again August, this is a must-do for any dedicated audiophile and train enthusiast with an adventurous bucket list.
The lineup draws from local and national talent and includes Matthew Curry, Leon J, Alex Maryol, Kirk James, Kipori Woods, Donny Morales, One Roof Blues, Scotty Spenner, Franco Paletta and the Stingers, C.W. Ayon, and Rockin’ Jake. Saturday is currently sold out, but tickets for Friday are still available at durangobluestrain.com.
