OURAY COUNTY – Ouray County Commissioner Mike Fedel has passed the baton to candidate Lezah Saunders to run for County Commissioner District 2 which encompasses Ouray. The announcement was made at the Ouray County Republican Assembly on Tuesday, March 25, according to party chair Susan Watson.
In other news from the Ouray County Republican Assembly, a slate of republican elected officials all confirmed that they will seek re-election, including Ouray County Clerk and Recorder Michelle Nauer; Assessor Susie Mayfield; Sheriff Dominic “Junior” Mattivi, Surveyor Bob Larson and Coroner Colleen Hollenbeck.
Watson reported that J. Paul Brown spoke to delegates about his bid to reclaim House District 59; David Cox spoke for his nomination on the Republican primary ballot for Congressional District 3; and letters were read from Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Gessler, incumbent Sen. Ellen Roberts and Cynthia Coffman who is running for Attorney General.
The Ouray County Republican Central Committee holds its annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Saturday, April 26, at the 4-H Event Center with guest speaker, Pastor Rafael Cruz, father of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. Cost is $25 per person and reservations are now be taken.
The Ouray County Democratic Party held its County Assembly on March 22 at the Ridgway Community Center.
Jeannine Casolari was elected to be the candidate for County Treasurer, and John Draper was elected to be the placeholder candidate for County Commissioner for District 2.
