MOUNTAIN VILLAGE –Bringing together community members and emergency responders, the Mountain Village Police Department is excited to announce the third annual National Night Out will take place Wednesday, Aug. 20. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The community is invited to join their neighbors, police and fire department teams at the Mountain Village Fire Station for a free ice cream social and tours of police cars, fire trucks and an ambulance. Free gun safety locks will be available and the Telluride Fire District will offer free blood pressure readings. In addition to this year’s festivities, all children 17 and under may enter a drawing to win a new laptop computer and other great prizes.
National Night Out, a part of the National Association of Town Watch, involves over 37.8 million people in 16,124 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. This well-known and celebrated annual event was designed to heighten community awareness of safety and fire prevention issues, as well as to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership.
“National Night Out is a wonderful opportunity for local police and fire departments to become acquainted with our community in a fun and relaxed atmosphere instead of in response to an emergency or crisis,” said National Night Out organizer and Mountain Village Community Service Officer Anton Benitez. “We look forward to the chance to get to know the people who make up our community and strengthen the bonds within our neighborhoods.”
