Read in the Watch police report today that a Telluride marshal had a gun-drawn standoff with a person brandishing a knife. First bringing a knife to a gunfight is a bad idea. The good idea was the character and restraint shown by the officer.
Too often we read about a cop shooting someone threatening them with a knife, or rake, for that matter, under the guise of “feeling threatened.” When you have the gun and they have the knife, things have to get well out of control before shots are fired. Our marshal took exactly the right, professional action.
