Half Drop Brooklyn/Colorado is an invitational group show of abstract works on paper curated by Ridgway, Colorado artist Meredith Nemirov. The exhibit will feature fourteen artists, twelve works each, and will feature one artist each from Colorado’s seven Certified Creative Districts and seven artists in Brooklyn, NY.
Half-Drop repeat is a French 1800’s layout most frequently used in textile design in which the motif is repeated halfway down the side in a vertical direction. Half-drop match patterns repeat at the ceiling line on every other strip and the design tends to run diagonally.
The installation of drawings following this layout creates an overall exciting visual by using every inch of the wall. Works are fixed to the wall (pinned, magnet, etc.) unframed in five widely spaced continuous rows (approx. 2’ apart) that reach from floor to ceiling and are staggered vertically. This creates a loose checkerboard pattern that allows each work to be viewed on it’s own but within the context of the series of which it is a part, and then among the entire group of unrelated works.
Telluride embraces an arts district comprised of visiting, part-time, regional and local artists who combine to create a dynamic and exciting creative community. Connections between Telluride and Brooklyn are numerous, and will be tapped for this artistic collaboration that connects communities across the state and across the country.
