Beginning on October 7th, 2014 Weehawken Creative Arts is offering swing classes out of The Sherbino Theater in Ridgway, CO. Classes run from 6:30-8:30pm and are every Tuesday in October. ( October 7, 14, 21, 28) There is a $10 discount for couples and college/high school students.

Don’t miss the best swing classes in the tri-county area. Classes will be taught by Chris & Wendy Shima, Lindy Hop teachers for over 15 years!

Welcome to the 2014 Cellscape Photo Contest and Exhibit. A landscape photo made with a cell/smart phone is a cellscape. The modern hike inspires media activity. The cell camera snapshot provides the most immediate access to recording the moment. Immediacy, inspiration and convenience triumph lens quality. The cellscape is inevitable and it has never been easier.

Winning images, along with many contestants’ photos, will be printed and displayed at the Cellscapes exhibit and celebration at Gallery 81435 on Wednesday, December 3, from 5-8pm, and prizes will be awarded.

The goal is to fill Gallery 81435 with cellscape images taken since August 2014. There is a small entry fee required that will be used for exhibition costs.
$5 to enter up to three images, $10 for unlimited entries.
Printed images will be for sale on the night of the exhibition.
Artists will receive 50% commission on sold work.

WHEN: Currently accepting submissions.
DEADLINE for entries is Friday, November 14, 2014.

Master Dance Classes with Kevin Gallacher of The New Mexico Ballet @ Weehawken Creative Arts

Master dance classes with Kevin Gallacher of the New Mexico Ballet and Carnival of Wonders will consist of jazz, conditioning and contemporary ballet on Saturday, October 25, 2014. Depending on the age of the participant, the time of class will vary
9-11am for ages 8-11
11-1pm ages 11 and up
Partnering (by invitation only) 1-2pm
2-4pm ages 14 and up

About instructor Kevin Gallacher
A native of Montrose, Colorado, Kevin first met Natasha Pyeatte (now Artistic Director of Weehawken Dance) in tap class when they were both 16 years old. Kevin soon started studying ballet and jazz as well as tap and became dance partners with Natasha when they performed in the ballet “Sleeping Beauty”. Over the years, Kevin and Natasha have remained friends and the two have continued to dance on their own as well as together in numerous performances over the past 12 years. Kevin moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he continued his training. Kevin has studied with Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, and Moving People Dance Santa Fe (MPD). His studies have also included contemporary ballet, jazz, modern, swing, hip-hop, break-dancing, and gymnastics. Kevin has been a principal dancer for Moving People Too!, and has been a company member of Moving People Dance Santa Fe for seven years. He has also performed with, Circus Luminous, New Mexico Ballet Company, and three seasons with The Santa Fe Opera and toured the East Coast and Las Vegas, performing in “The Carnival of Wonders” working with choreographer Peggy Hickey, and artistic director Joanie Spina. Last year Kevin danced the role of Snow King with the New Mexico Ballet, and this year, in addition to Weehawken’s Nutcracker, he will be dancing the role of Cavalier with the Festival Ballet of Albuquerque. Kevin Gallacher is back in Montrose performing in the same place he did the first time he danced with Natasha, this time as a guest artist and professional

Karate is back!!!

Karate is offered on a monthly basis- You may attend in Ridgway and/or Ouray. Payment is due first of the month, unless purchasing a 3-month or 6-month pass via phone. Mondays in Ouray, Thursdays in Ridgway.  Join us for Karate with Sensei Burkhard Feierabend. Whether you are new to Karate or a seasoned student, the Sensei will work with your level. If younger students prefer to leave after 1 hour of class, that is not a problem.  Taught in the kyokushin kai-kan style, similar shotokan style of karate, we welcome new students to try this exceptional experience for your mind and body! Sensei has over 42 years in karate, rank of Go-Dan.
Sunday Cinema at The Sherb @ The Sherbino Theater

STOKER–****THIS FILM IS RATED R*****

Just in time for Halloween, Stoker is a wickedly scary, beautifully realized film, starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, and Matthew Goode. The film created quite a stir at its premiere at Sundance in 2013 and features famed South Korean director, Chan-wook Park (Oldboy) in his first English language effort. Set amongst the mansions of Nashville, STOKER tells the story of a mother and daughter coming to grips with the mysterious, untimely death of their husband/father, and the mysterious appearance of Uncle Charlie, who comes to the funeral, seemingly to replace his dead brother.
STOKER plays Sunday, October 26th at The Sherbino Theater. Doors and cash bar open at 7pm and the film begins at 7:30. Tickets are $7 and are available for purchase at the doors. Both full bar and concessions are available. Please join The Sherbino on the 4th Sunday of every month for Sunday Cinema at The Sherb.

Pilates Barre: Function & FUN @ Weehawken Ridgway

This functional and fun class is taught by Michelle Kodis, who worked and trained extensively with Darin Fletcher of Integrative Movement Center.  This brings together the best of her background in pilates, dance and FUN!  Pilates and the barre are a match made in exercise heaven. Together they facilitate and expand the principles of true functional movement in an upbeat and supportive environment that focuses on the body’s intrinsic strength and capacity for dynamic, fluid, natural movement.    Designed for all levels and typically accompanied by invigorating music, this class incorporates fundamental Pilates mat routines with barre exercises for a vigorous full-body workout designed to:  ·  sculpt and lengthen muscles for a lean, streamlined silhouette  ·  improve posture  ·  develop deep core strength  ·  safely enhance range of motion  ·  promote overall endurance and fitness.  Classes are by punch card, available at class or online.  Please bring a MAT and WATER .  First class is free for each student.
