Golf and Cheeseburger Special a Collaboration to Attract Golfers

MONTROSE — Horsefly Brewing has opened its third location, Brews and Bogeys, at the Black Canyon Golf Course, and is preparing for its grand opening July 11.

Earlier this year the City of Montrose took control of the course, after purchasing the front nine holes and buildings from the Montrose Land Company. The city had already owned the back nine.

The city made renovations to the facility, including  repairs of the foundation in the restaurant area, before making a public announcement in hopes of attracting private business owners to take over operations of the restaurant.

Horsefly responded, and will make final renovations for a grand opening on Friday, July 11.

“We’re just getting our feet wet, and figuring out what works,” said Horsefly’s Phil Freismuth, of the renovation work.

Brews and Bogeys is Horsefly’s third location, joining their Main Street brewery and the small grill at Montrose Regional Airport.

The golf course eatery features a full bar with Horsefly beer on tap, mixed drinks and wine. Growlers of beer will also be available. Unique to this restaurant is the addition of a one-third-pound burger, along with its lighter menu.

“It’s more of a golf course menu, with great brews from the Horsefly Brewery,” said manager Steve Poland.

Along with the new burger, a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, wings and salads complete the menu (which also includes a Club Sandwich, a staple of golf course cuisine).

On the second and fourth Friday of each month the restaurant and pro-shop will host 9 holes of golf – and a cheeseburger dinner – for $20.

Owner Melanie Freismuth said this promotion represents a collaboration between the restaurant and pro-shop. Poland said hosting a brunch one Sunday a month is being considered, as well.

Brews and Bogeys, open seven days a week, seats roughly 80 people, indoors and on the patio outside. On Friday, July 11, local musician Donny Morales will entertain the grand opening crowd.

Find Brews and Bogeys on Facebook under the handle Brew Bogey for specials and announcements.
