Trooper Shot, Suspect Dead Following Shooting on I-70

Staff Report GARFIELD COUNTY COLO – According to a Garfield County Sheriff’s Office news release the Colorado State Patrol Trooper shot this morning during a routine traffic stop has been transported to the Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs. The suspect is dead on scene located on Interstate 70 in the eastern part of the county near mile marker 129. The CSP said in a news release that the Trooper had stopped to “assist a motorist.” According to the GCSO west bound I-70 is closed at mile marker 130 and will remain closed indefinitely. I-70 east bound has been re-opened. Officers from several Agencies as well as an Investigator from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office are on scene.
